Country of Origin: Italy Latin Name: Citrus Bergamia
Bergamot is named after the city of Bergamot in Lombardy, Italy, where the fruit was first cultivated, in the 18th century. A small tree with smooth oval leaves and small round fruit, Bergamot is also grown commercially on the Ivory Coast exclusively for the essential oil, which is cold pressed from the peel of the nearly ripened fruit. The entire plant emits a strong fragrance similar to citrus, but most like that of the tropical tree, orange bergamot and the blossoms provide the flavouring for the famous Earl Grey tea. It has refreshing, stimulating and uplifting properties that are welcome when we feel fatigued, stressed or anxious.
