This essential oil is obtained by distillation of the fragrant flowers of Cananga odorata, a large tropical Asian tree of the custard-apple family. The oil is highly valued for soaps, cosmetics, and expensive perfumes, particularly in what are known as Oriental blends. In aromatherapy, Ylang Ylang evokes feelings of deep, languid calm that can melt away anxiety, tension and stress. Real Ylang Ylang should have a floral, creamy, delicate aroma, never overpowering or too densely sweet.
