Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils to Treat Sinusitis
Essential oils can be very effective for treating sinusitis (sinus infections) because they can help soothe both the symptoms and the associated pain. They can be administered in a variety of ways to provide relief from sinus pain and congestion. Essential oils that are useful for treating sinusitis include: eucalyptus radiata, ginger, lavender, lemon, rosemary, peppermint, pine, tea tree, niaouli, sandalwood, and clove bud.
Essential Oil Vapour Inhalation for Sinusitis
A steam inhalation serves to promote drainage of the sinuses and ease localized pain. Bring a kettle of water to a boil then pour into to a large bowl. Add 5 drops of any of the above essential oils or our Respiration Essential Oil Blend, specifically created to help with blockages to the respiratory tract. Bring your face over top of the bowl then cover both your head and the bowl with a towel. Breathe deeply for 10 – 15 minutes. Repeat this 2-3 times a day. For vapour therapy throughout the day or as you sleep add any of the above essential oils to an ultrasonic diffuser when suffering from a cold or flu. These act as humidifiers, also serving to promote drainage of the sinuses.
Using an Essential Oil Warm Compress for Sinusitis
Add 6 drops of any combination of the above essential oils or our Respiration blend to a bowl of steaming water, soak a washcloth, wring out the water and apply to your face or areas where you feel pain. This is a nice way to use the water leftover from the inhalation.
