Scars resulting from wounds to the skin can be tough to get rid of, but essential oils can play a part in scar treatment and prevention. Whether they are from a cut, burn or surgery, most of us would like to do something to prevent them.
Caring for the Wound
It’s important to take good care of new wounds to fight infection and help the body to regenerate new cells, ultimately serving to heal the wound more quickly. The more quickly a wound can heal, the less chance that it will scar. More about using essential oils for cuts and wounds.
Scar Treatment with Essential Oils
Once the wound has sealed shut, you can start using other treatments to prevent scarring. Our Scar Stopper Serum, containing Geranium and Helichrysum in a base of rosehip oil, is a ready-made solution for preventing and treating scars. Don’t remove any scabs. You have to let it heal naturally, otherwise it WILL scar! Apply the blend over the top of the scab and surrounding area 2 – 3 times a day.
Other essential oils are also effective for scar prevention and treatment, including: Lavender, Geranium, Mandarin, Neroli, Patchouli, Jasmine, Rosewood, and Rose. Lavender oil can be used directly on the wound and works best with newer scars. The rest of these essential oils can be blended by themselves or with each other in Rosa Mosqueta Oil (also known as rosehip oil), which is an effective base oil for regenerating skin cells. Add 10 – 20 drops in this 30ml/1oz bottle. Roll bottle between your hands to blend oils before use.
These rosehip oil based essential oil blends will also work on old scars but it may take 3 – 6 months before you’ll see results.
