Controlling Oily Skin with Essential Oils & Other Products Essential oils can be helpful for controlling oily skin by helping reduce the amount of sebum production (the oil that is secreted by your skin). When combined with an appropriately chosen skin care regimen, essential oils can be an effective way of getting oily skin under control.
Skin Care for Oily Skin
An important part of controlling oily skin is using the right products for your skin type, as many products clog pores, worsening the effects of oily skin. Our Thera-Skin Care Line has a line of products specifically for oily skin, visit our Skin Care page to find the entire collection of products recommended for use with oily skin. If you're prone to acne, consult our acne solutions page.
Essential Oils to Help Control Oily Skin There are a number of essential oils that are helpful for controlling oily skin. Neroli contains a mild astringent which helps reduce oil. Eucalyptus, cypress, tea tree, chamomile, orange, mandarin, lavender, bergamot, cypress, niaouli, grapefruit, rosewood, lemongrass, and juniper berry are known for having anti-bacterial and/or anti-septic qualities, which is important for preventing the breakouts that come with oily skin. Geranium, peppermint, rosemary, cedarwood, rose, ylang ylang and lemon are known for balancing or decreasing sebum production.
Toners and cleansers containing one of or a combination of these oils can help you keep oily skin under control. Try our Thera-Skin Pore Clearing Astringent Toner, which contains a blend of tea tree, eucalyptus and other astringent essential oils. Also, our Thera-Skin Pore Clearing Facial Cleanser contains a blend of eucalyptus, peppermint and other oils that help with oily skin. Alternatively, you can add these essential oils to an appropriate moisturizer, like our Thera-Skin Oil-Free Moisturizing Fluid. Check out our Home Blending Guide for useful tips. |
