Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils for Joint Sprains, Strains & Injuries
Essential oils can be very helpful in dealing with sprains and getting back to normal really quickly. Joint injuries occur when the ligaments/fibres of connective tissue are torn or damaged. This includes everything from a minor strain or sprain to a full dislocation. The damaged tissue causes swelling and is extremely painful. One should usually follow R.I.C.E. (Rest, Immobilization, Cold, Elevation) when doing first aid for joint injuries. Medical attention should always be sought for joint injuries, but once the type of injury has been established, essential oils can be an effective way to help reduce swelling, pain and healing times.
Topical Essential Oil Remedies for Joint Injuries
There are a number of essential oils that can help with joint injuries, including: cypress, eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, lavender, ginger, chamomile blue, clove, marjoram, pine, and juniper berry. Our Arthritis, Muscle & Joint Pain Treatment Gel, with cypress and eucalyptus,
is a customer favourite and is great choice for joint injuries. Our Bruise & Wound Gel, with rosemary and cypress is also a good choice. Both remedies are formulated with a base of comfrey gel, which contains allontoin and mucins that help sprains heal. They also contain arnica extract, which helps relieve pain, stop swelling and reduce bruising. Our Headache Relief Aromatherapy Roll-on, with its combination of peppermint and lavender,
is also a good alternative, which comes in a more compact format. Alternatively, you
could create your own pain treatment by combining any of the essential
oils listed below with our comfrey gel or our unscented roll-on.
Essential Oil Bath & Body Care for Joint Injuries
Escents' Muscle Relief Bath Salts with peppermint and cypress is a good choice for joint pain relief. They contain Dead Sea Salt, which is believed to help stimulate blood circulation to help with joint problems when soaked into the body. *Note: Do not soak until the initial swelling subsides, at least 2 days after the injury. Our Muscle Relief bath & massage oil is a good choice for massage or in the bath. Or add
10 drops of any of the essential oils listed here, or combine
them with our unscented bath and massage oil, unscented body salt scrub or any of our unscented body products. |
