Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils for Grief & Mourning
Grief is associated with a variety of physical and emotional states, all of which can be helped with the use of essential oils. Grieving is a natural part of life. It allows the body to express the pain and deep sense of loss associated with bereavement. It helps to cleanse the acidic toxins that build up when muscles constrict with intense sadness and sorrow. Grief does not only result from the loss of a loved one; it can also come from losing a job, a friend moving away, even a mastectomy. We can grieve at very deep levels for purely sentimental reasons, not only physical loss.
Grief is a deep experience and goes beyond sadness and sorrow. Below are a number of ways essential oils can be used to help with the grieving process.
Essential Oils for Anger & Depression Caused by Grief / Mourning
One part of the natural grieving process is anger, usually accompanied by feelings of guilt. When there is a loss, the person left behind can experience anger asking questions like “why me?!?” or “why wasn’t it me?!?” depending on the situation.
There are a number of essential oils that can help with feelings of anger associated with grief. More about aromatherapy using essential oils for anger. Many people who are grieving also naturally experience feelings of depression, worthlessness, failure, or despondency as a result of the deep pain of loss. Essential oils can help lessen the effects of sorrow during the grieving or mourning period. More about aromatherapy using essential oils to help with depression.
Essential Oils to Help People Who Are Grieving to Let Go & Move On Although essential oils can lessen the effects of the anger and depression during low periods, they aren't necessarily used to take away the pain. They are more effective in assisting and encouraging the person to work through the pain and move on in their lives, thus releasing them from the ongoing toxicity of the grief. Essential oils that can help people who are grieving to let go and move on include: rose, frankincense, neroli, and geranium. Try adding of any of these essential oils, by
themselves or blended together, to an aromatherapy diffuser. You can also add them to unscented bath and body products.
Certain essential oil blends give powerful combined effects for grief as well. Love, with top notes of rose and jasmine, helps calm anger, alleviate depression and heal emotional wounds to help the person move on. Stress Relief or Blue Water, both of which contain top notes of neroli and bergamot, and Calm, with top notes of frankincense and orange, also have similar effects. Use these blends in an aromatherapy diffuser or try any bath, body and fragrance products from the Love and Calm collections. There is also a Stress Relief Bath Bomb.
