Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils to Treat Bronchitis
Essential oils can be very effective for treating acute bronchitis (bronchial infections) because they can help soothe both the symptoms and the associated pain. They can be administered in a variety of ways to provide relief from chest pain and congestion. Essential oils that are useful for treating bronchitis include: Eucalyptus Radiata, Rosemary, Lavender, Peppermint, Pine Needle, Tea Tree, Niaouli, Marjoram, Frankincense, Clove Bud, and Cedarwood.
Essential Oil Vapour Inhalation for Bronchitis
A steam inhalation serves to break up mucous and reduce coughing. Bring a kettle of water to a boil then pour into to a large bowl. Bring your face over top of the bowl then cover both your head and the bowl with a towel. Breathe deeply for 10 – 15 minutes. Repeat this 2-3 times a day. Using an Essential Oil in a Warm Bath for Bronchitis
A warm bath is a nice way to ease muscle soreness from the constant coughing that comes with bronchitis, as well as the aches and pains from colds or flu. Blend 5 drops of eucalyptus oil, 5 drops peppermint oil and 4 drops of lavender oil with 30ml of unscented bath oil, add to bath water and soak for 15-20 minutes. Breathe in the oils' vapours as you relax in the bath.
