Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils to Treat Blisters
Like minor cuts and bruises, essential oils can be used in conjunction with first aid to help facilitate healing in blisters. Using essential oils that help disinfect the area speeds up healing times so you can get your feet back into action faster. Essential oils that can be helpful for healing blisters include: tea tree, lavender, peppermint and chamomile.
First Aid Using Essential Oils for Blisters
If you develop a blister, first clean the area by soaking it briefly in warm water. Pat dry. Don't break skin that is still intact. If the blister has already broken, don't remove the remaining skin. Apply a small amount of an essential oil treatment. Our Blemish B'Gone Gel is a good choice as it contains tea tree and lavender in a base of healing comfrey gel. You can create your own salve by blending any of the above essential oils into comfrey gel. Alternatively, tea tree and lavender are both mild enough to be used without diluting. Avoid wearing the shoes or doing the activity that caused the blister in the first place to promote healing. If you can't, apply a loose bandage or donut-shaped moleskin pad if the blister is located in a place where pressure is applied.
Essential Oil Blister Prevention
If you're on your feet a lot for your work or lifestyle, you may want to take more active measures to prevent blisters before they occur. Be sure to wear good socks and shoes, replacing them when they are worn out. Tired, worn-out feet are more susceptible to blistering. A foot bath with essential oils is a good way to rejuvenate your feet and help prevent the development of blisters. To do this, prepare a basin containing 2 gallons of warm water. Add 3 drops of each of the following essential oils: peppermint, lavender, and chamomile. Soak your feet in the foot bath for 10-15 minutes. Follow up with a moisturizing lotion like our Revitalizing Foot and Leg Lotion. |
